SIX TEAMS TO VIE WITH EACH OTHER DURING THE LEAGUE

GLOBAL KABADDI LEAGUE Punjab

Jalandhar, 12 October (Sonia) : Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar and Chairman of District Level Committee of ‘Global Kabaddi League’ Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that the Sports Minister Punjab Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi would inaugurate the ‘Global Kabaddi League’ being organized by the Punjab government under the aegis of ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’ on October 14.

Interacting with the media persons here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that to further promote sports in the state the league was being held by the Sports Department in collaboration with the private sponsors as the entire expenses would be borne by them whereas the administrative help and the stadiums would be provided by the State Government. Mr. Sharma said that the league would be organized from October 14 to November 3 adding that its inauguration would be held at the Olympian Surjit Hockey stadium at Burlton Park by Cabinet Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi whereas notes Punjabi singer Mr. Gurdas Mann would regale the audience with his songs. He said that the league would be held at Jalandhar from October 14 to 21 and the closing as well as the finals would be held at the hockey stadium, phase-9, SAS Nagar Mohali.

The Deputy Commissioner said that six teams namely California Eaglea (USA), Maple Leaf (Canada), Singh Warriors (Punjab), Black Panthers (Fresno, USA), Haryana Lions (India) and Doaba Warriors (USA) would participate in the league and vie with each for top award of Rs 1 crore adding that first runners up would get Rs 75 lakh whereas second runners up would get a prize of Rs 50 lakh. He said that every team would play with each other twice and therefore every team would play a total of 10 matches. Mr. Sharma said that this major sporting extravaganza was being organized by the state Government in consonance to its firm commitment to further promote Kabaddi- the mother game of Punjab. He also thanked NRI Tut brothers and Mr. Yogesh Chabra for sponsoring this mega sports event that would help a lot in channelizing the unbounded energy of youth in positive direction.
