Sidhu’s wife joins Congress, hints at his entry too

Navjot Kaur Sidhu joins Congress party

New Delhi, 28 Nov 2016 : Cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu and former hockey Olympian Pargat Singh on Monday joined the Congress.

Hinting at Sidhu’s entry to the Congress, Navjot Kaur said: “We are like one soul in two bodies. The body has to follow the soul.”

Punjab Congress President Captain Amarinder Singh said: “If Mrs Sidhu is here, do you think Mr Sidhu is not going to come with us (Congress)?”

“I have not met him yet and I have not spoken to him. He is still in Mumbai; when he comes to Delhi we will discuss it,” Singh said in a media briefing here.

Pargat and Kaur met the Congress high command here last week regarding their entry to the party ahead of the Punjab assembly elections early next year.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu and former Olympian Pargat Singh join Congress

Navjot Kaur Sidhu resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party on October 8. She represented Amritsar East constituency in the Punjab assembly. She is also a former Chief Parliamentary Secretary of the Punjab government.

Pargat Singh was earlier associated with the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab. He represents Jalandhar Cantt constituency in the state assembly.

SAD breaks alliance with BJP Leaves NDA in protest against farmers ordinance

Chandigarh, 26 Sep : The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has severed its alliance with the BJP. The Akali Dal had a 22-year-old alliance with the BJP.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the Akali Dal’s Kaur Committee which lasted for more than four hours today. Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal addressed the press after the meeting and announced that he would no longer be a part of BJP-NDA.

Farmers, Singers, Political parties protest against farmer ordinances

Chandigarh, 25 September : Farmers’ organizations have called for a nationwide agitation on Friday in protest against 3 agricultural bills passed by Parliament. However, the effect of the movement is more visible in Punjab and Haryana.

The farmers of Punjab have been sitting on the rail tracks on Thursday for several days on the road. In view of the rail roko movement, the railways have partially canceled 20 special trains till Saturday and halted five before the destination. At the same time, in Haryana, farmers and artisans have warned to block the highway.
