Story TV’s Premkatha brings together romance, revenge, family rivalries and unexpected revelations in a dramatic love story set against the colourful backdrop of Gujarat. Starring Nyrraa M. Banerji and Karam Rajpal in the lead roles, the microdrama aims to deliver a larger-than-life cinematic experience through its visual presentation and emotionally charged storytelling.
Nyrraa plays Sejal, the fearless daughter of a dreaded don, who falls in love with Jai, played by Karam Rajpal. Jai is a humble truck driver who repeatedly comes to Sejal’s rescue. However, their growing relationship soon becomes the centre of a fierce conflict between rival crime families. As hidden secrets begin to surface, Jai’s true identity emerges, changing the course of their lives.
While the storyline promises romance, danger and dramatic twists, the show’s visual treatment is another aspect drawing attention. Nyrraa has revealed that the team took inspiration from acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s distinctive filmmaking style while creating the show’s cinematic world.
Nyrraa M. Banerji on Recreating Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Signature Style
Speaking about Premkatha’s visual appeal and cinematic treatment in an interview with a leading publication, Nyrraa shared how the team attempted to capture the grandeur and emotional intensity associated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films.
The actress said, “We have created the charm of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s filmmaking. The Lahu Munh Lag Gaya kind of andaaz and appeal, we tried to capture that essence Deepika on Big Screen and Nyrraa on vertical. We shot the entire show with that sensibility. When I used to see the shots, I would think, ‘this has shown me how I would look in a Bhansali film’. We have really put a lot of effort into bringing that level of energy to the making.”
Her remarks highlight the creative approach behind the show, particularly the effort to bring a cinematic sensibility to a vertical microdrama format. Rather than focusing only on the narrative, the team also worked towards creating visuals that could evoke the scale and emotional appeal associated with grand Bollywood productions.
“Deepika on the Big Screen and Nyrraa on Vertical”
During the conversation, Nyrraa also made a playful reference to Deepika Padukone while discussing the show’s visual style. The actress charmingly remarked, “Lag rahi hoon ke nahi main Deepika Padukone jaisi?”
The comment reflected her light-hearted approach to the visual comparison and the creative ambition behind Premkatha. Her reference to Deepika Padukone and Bhansali’s cinematic world underlined the kind of visual impression the team hoped to create within the vertical storytelling format.
Nyrraa’s comments also offered a glimpse into the experience of watching the finished shots during production. According to the actress, seeing the visuals made her imagine how she might appear in a film directed by Bhansali.
The comparison was presented as her personal experience of the show’s cinematic treatment, rather than an indication of any direct involvement by Bhansali in the project.
H2: A Love Story Complicated by Rival Families and Hidden Secrets
At the heart of Premkatha lies the relationship between Sejal and Jai, two characters whose worlds are very different. Sejal is the fearless daughter of a dreaded don, while Jai is introduced as an ordinary truck driver who repeatedly helps her when she needs support.
Their connection gradually develops into a love story, but the relationship soon becomes entangled in a dangerous conflict between rival crime families. What begins as a romance takes a dramatic turn as tensions rise and secrets threaten to change everything.
Jai’s true identity becomes a crucial part of the narrative. As revelations emerge, the lives of both characters begin to change, adding suspense and uncertainty to their relationship.
The combination of romance, revenge and unexpected twists gives the story its high-voltage dramatic character. The colourful Gujarati setting further establishes the atmosphere in which the characters navigate love, loyalty and family conflict.
H2: Bringing Larger-Than-Life Cinema to Microdrama
Premkatha aims to bring the visual ambition of mainstream cinematic storytelling into the microdrama format. With its vibrant setting, dramatic confrontations and emotionally intense romance, the show seeks to create an immersive experience through short-form vertical storytelling.
Nyrraa’s comments suggest that the creative team paid particular attention to the visual treatment and the energy of the performances. Drawing inspiration from Bhansali’s filmmaking style was part of the effort to give the show a distinctive cinematic identity.
The format presents its own storytelling approach, combining a compact viewing experience with dramatic developments and revelations. Premkatha brings these elements together through the central relationship between Sejal and Jai and the conflict surrounding their families.
